Dear Larry:

Even though we are not getting any mail from you, I thought I’d write. The last letter we got from you was written the 13th of October so it has been over 2 weeks since we got a letter. Dad said that you are probably on your R+R and having fun. Aunt Mary is waiting until I hear from you to send you a box. Maybe you might be moved and have a different address. Uncle Ray was over the other day and he said that he doesn’t understand why you didn’t get their box. He felt pretty bad about it and I can’t blame him. The only thing we can figure out is that it was probably stolen. He said that he put the address on it that I gave him so it couldn’t be the wrong address.

7:45 A.M.

Dear Larry:

Thought I would drop you a few lines while everything is nice and quiet here. The kids all left for school, Dad is at work, so I am sitting here sipping some tea and trying to think of what to write to you.

Carol said that she was going to go down Barbara’s house after school. I guess Barbara has “Mono,” some kind of a disease that her whole face is swelled up. So she will have to be out of school for some time, Carol said.

It has really been cold the last few days. The frost is still on the grass this morning. The weather man said that it will warm up today and maybe we will have a nice weekend. There are still a lot of leaves on the trees. The city crew has been coming around and taking them off the street and curbs. Dad and Tresa raked some of the leaves last weekend and Dad burned them.

Wednesday 8:20 P.M.

Dear Larry,

Thought I would write a few lines even though there is not much to write about. Hope you are ok. Here in Anderson it is really cold now. I took the fan out of the living room and put it down in the basement for the winter. Also I took the screens out of the doors and put the windows in and put the screen up in my storm window. I am not taking any chances because the kids may be out soaking windows since they are out of school tomorrow and Friday. Next week is Halloween and the kids only get to go out one night this year and that is Halloween night. In a way I am glad because I won’t have kids knocking on my door every 5 minutes.

11:20 A.M.

Dear Larry:

Here it is Saturday morning. Dad is at work. Joanna stayed all night with Carol J—– and was supposed to go to work this morning with her. At least I hope she did, because her mustang is parked in our driveway. Carol (your sister) went to Cincinnati this morning with the girls from the [Sophomore] class to see a baseball game and some sight seeing. She stayed all night with a girlfriend and they were supposed to leave at 6 this morning and is supposed to come back at 11 o’clock tonight. Dad is supposed to pick her up at that time.

Tomorrow, Dad, Karl, Tresa, and I are going to Cincinnati to a game to see the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds play. We are going on a bus with the Meadowbrook team Perfecto that Karl was on and won the Little League Championship.

1 P.M.

Dear Larry:

Well, here it is a hot Sunday afternoon. Dad went to Cincinnati with the St. Ambrose bus association to a baseball game. Joanna laid out in the sun after church this morning and now she is getting ready to go to work from 2 till 10 this evening, Carol went to Lake Webster for the weekend with a girl friend (Carol P—–). Tresa went to Aqua Gardens with Debby and Sara. Karl as yet isn’t home from the 11:30 mass, he was gonna go swimming with Tresa, but they didn’t wait for him. And Mom, here she is at home sweating. (boy is it hot). Karl just came home. I guess maybe Joanna will drop him off at Aqua Gardens on her way to work.

Well, Larry, how is everything with you? I’ll bet you’re sweating it out too. We only had 1 letter from you last week. So here is hoping we get a letter tomorrow.

Wednesday evening 9 P.M.

Dear Larry:

A few lines to let you know we got your letter today. A short one, I might say, but at least it is a few lines.

Dad is working at the club tonight, Tresa and Karl are in bed, and Carol is cutting out a pattern for a dress for herself. Joanna is going out with Larry L—–, she said he got a new thunderbird and he wants to take her for a ride. Dad and I don’t like the idea of her going out with him. He has been married for one reason and besides, there are plenty of single guys around and why should she go with someone that has a kid and besides that he is a lot older than her.

June 1956 – Cub Scouts Enjoy Trip To Kokomo By Train

Posted on October 6th, 2010

This newspaper clipping, probably taken from The Herald Bulletin, shows Larry (middle row, third from the left) and his sister Joanna (to the left of Larry) with their other St. Ambrose Cub Scout friends. On Saturday, June 26, 1956, they took a train trip from Anderson to Kokomo, IN where they went on a tour of the Kokomo Police Station and jail. Click the image to enlarge and read the entire article. Larry was 8 years old in the picture.

Dear Larry:

Just got home from Church so I thought I had better drop you a few lines to let you know I am thinking of you. Today is Ash Wednesday and Karl had to serve mass at 7:30 P.M. so Aunt Mary took us to Church and on the way home we stopped at Pay Less and got some rolls for breakfast.  Dad is working at the Club as usual on Wednesday nights. Joanna is waiting for Carol J—– to pick her up and they are going out for a while. Tresa and Karl are already in bed for the night and Carol is still doing her homework.

Larry’s 3rd Grade Photo – 1955-1956

Posted on September 22nd, 2010

We’re assuming this is Larry’s third grade photo. The only marking on it is “ST. AMBROSE – 1955-56.” He would have been 8 years old and that’s usually how old a third grader is.

St. Ambrose is a Catholic church and K-12 school in Anderson, IN. All of the Rudolf children attended.

5:30 P.M.

Dear Larry:

Just got through with the supper dishes. Dad went after Karl because he had basketball practice, and then he has to go to work at the club.

Joanna gets off at 6 so I will try to write you till she gets home. It was sure good to hear your voice on the phone sunday. I was surprised that you called so early.

We went to the 11:30 mass. I forgot to tell you, but a week ago, Dad and I went to confession and we were talking to Father Heilman and he asked about you and where you were at. He said he didn’t know you were gone until he seen it in the paper. Also, yesterday Dad and I went to the meeting and everyone asked about you. I was talking to Pat and Andy O—– and they both said they really miss you and they talk about you a lot. Pat was telling me that Eldon M—– is leaving this week. I guess him and John H—– are going together. She said that Mike C—– bought John H—-’s car.
