Dear Larry:

We may see you before you get this letter, but I thought I would drop a few lines anyway.  Today is Dad’s birthday, so we had the usual cake and ice cream and missed you like we did on Karl’s birthday.  I got Dad a white dress shirt and that was about it, because we got the new Encyclopedias and the bookcase which we had ordered (and as yet don’t have).  We got it last week, but had to send it back because it was damaged, so now we have to wait for another one.

Larry’s Official Bootcamp Photo – 1968

Posted on September 29th, 2010

We’re going to assume this photo was taken as Larry was entering Army bootcamp at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky in early 1968. There were no markings on it this to tell us otherwise. The photo is in very good condition and the colors are nice and vibrant. It almost looks like it could have been taken recently. (But not really because that would be creepy!)

Dear Larry:

I haven’t [written] to you in a few days, so I thought I had better write to let you know we didn’t forget you. Even though I don’t write every day, I still think about you and wonder how you are doing.

Well, Larry, Madison Heights got beat in the regional last night. It was an over time game and they got beat by Marion 52-51. I will have Karl cut this clipping out of the paper so you can read it yourself. I picked Marion in the guessing contest at Pay Less and for all 3 games the total was 379 and I picked 375. I sure was close but not close enough I guess because I didn’t hear anything. Some lady probably hit it right on the nose. I even got in a pool at the Club but I didn’t win that either.

Dear Larry:

Just a few lines to let you know I am thinking of you and hoping you are ok. The kids just came home from school. Carol has to deliver papers and Karl is waiting for Dad to come home for he has a game tonight, so Dad is going to take him and is going to watch the game. They are playing the 7th Street School. Joanna didn’t work today, so her and Carol J—– went shopping, at least that is where she said they were going.

Dear Larry:

I didn’t get a chance to write to you yesterday as I was pretty busy with my washing, so I thought I had better get on the ball and drop you a few lines today. We had an early supper tonight. We had leftover vegetable soup and hot dogs. Dad wanted to eat early so he could take his usual nap and then go bowling. Yesterday, Dad brought home two big rolls of salami, so he said he went to Emge’s to get some slides for Holy Name meetings Thursday and while he was there he got the salami. I have him hell for buying so much so I froze some of it. I was telling Dad that you liked it and would probably like to eat some if you were here.

Dear Larry:

Here it is Sunday afternoon and the house is quiet. Tresa and I are the only ones at home. Joanna and Carol went to see “Valley of the Dolls.” Joanna saw it once and it must have been good because she went to see it again. Karl is at the park playing basketball and Dad, as usual, had a building committee meeting at his home, the Polish Club. I’ll sure be glad when they get that place finished then he wont have an excuse to go over there. Ha.
