Monday Morning 9 A.M.

Dear Larry:

I didn’t have a chance to write to you yesterday because I was pretty busy. I had to help out at St. Ambrose at one of their  C.C.D. dinners and didn’t get home till 7:30 and by then, I was too tired to write. I guess they are not going to have any more classes or dinners for the high school age students after next Sunday. The kids didn’t like the idea of being there every Sunday afternoon for 3 hours. So, instead they are going on field trips 2 times a month and they are going to go away with the religion classes. That makes a lof of kids happy, including Carol.

7:45 A.M.

Dear Larry:

The kids just left for school so I thought I would drop you a few lines instead of going back to bed like I usually do.

It is cloudy and windy outside today and some of the leaves are beginning to fall off the trees. Sure looks like fall weather here and before you know it, we will be having snow.

Dad went to work this morning after a week of vacation. He didn’t do much while he was off, only messed around out in the garden and he finally did plant some new shrubbery in front of the girls’ bedroom. He also planted a couple on each side of the sidewalk by the street. I will have dad take a picture of it and send it to you.

Sept. 14, ’68

Larry,

Hi, how are ya? I’m sorry I haven’t written in years, but now that school has started, I haven’t had time to do anything but study. Haha. Every night when I get home from school, all I can do is do my homework, talk on the phone, wash my hair and roll it up and take a bath. By this time it’s 11:30 and I have to go to bed.

Our reserve football team at MHHS [Madison Heights High School] is pretty great this year, although we did get beat by AHS [Anderson High School] reserves. 7-0 was the score. At this game, one of our star players got a broken collar bone. They were really out to kill us.

We played Marion, the varsity, and I must admit, they creamed us. The score was 33-7. Marion has a rough team, but Anderson probably won’t beat them either. We play highland the 21st of Sept. and Anderson the 11th of Oct. We’ll beat ‘em though, you just wait.

August 31, 1968

Dear Larry:

Well, here it is the last day of August. Just think, in a few days it will be 3 months since you are in Vietnam. Does it seem that long to you?

I thought for sure we would get some mail from you today. It has been a week since we got your last letter. I see in the paper that they are really fighting over there, and I sure hope that you are not in the middle of it. I hope that you are really careful and don’t take any chances because we want you home next yet.

Joanna just came home from work. She is working a split shift and is looking for something to eat in the refrigerator. I told her to eat some rye bread. We picked up 5 loaves at Indianapolis the other day. If I thought it wouldn’t get stale I would send you a loaf, but it probably would. I will start getting some stuff ready and will send you a box before long. If you don’t want it you can give it to some of your friends.

Dear Larry:

The mailman just went by and we got your 2 letters and Joanna got one also. As you know, we were very glad to hear from you, also the pictures, they are good, boy you sure have your head shaved off. They remind me of some of the pictures I have of Uncles Tom, Ray, Jack and Ed when they were in the service. I will be looking for the large picture of you in your dress greens. It sure makes me sick to think of you being away from home and I can’t wait till the 2 years are up. Are the fellows in the picture with you in the same outfit as you are? Are they your age? Have you run into anyone from Anderson yet?
