Dear Larry:
Well, here I am again with a few lines to let you know all is well here and hope you are the same. We haven’t heard from you in some time again, but I keep hoping for a letter soon.
It is still cold as ever in Anderson, with snow on the ground and the streets are still slick. The kids went back to school yesterday, but the buses are slow coming around to pick them up. It’s been slick and cold since the first of the year. The weatherman said today that it is supposed to get a little warmer. I sure hope so, then maybe it will melt some of the slick spots. When we go out now, we have to walk on needles and pins to keep from falling. Ha.

Dear Larry:
Well, here I am again with a few lines to let you know all is ok here. About everyone in Anderson is sick with the flu, so we are keeping our fingers crossed here. As cold as it is here, it looks like the flu bug would freeze. The temperature here has been in the teens and almost zero the last few days.
We received a letter from you Thursday and, as you know, we were glad to hear from you. I haven’t been writing as much as I wanted to, but with the holidays over and the kids will be going back to school tomorrow, I will probably be back to normal (I hope).

Dear Larry:
Not much to write about but here I am with a few lines to let you know we are ok and hope that you are the same.
We haven’t had any mail from you for a while. We used to get a least one letter a week, but now we are lucky to get one every 2 or 3 weeks. It seems to me that the Army would give a guy time to write to his family and let us know how he is doing. We got the film yesterday so we will probably have them developed in a few days.
Maybe by now you got the cake I sent you. I am anxious to know if it got to you in good shape. It cost more to send the box than what was in it. The gum and shake-a-pudding was from Tresa. She wanted to send it separate but we thought it would be best to put it with the cake.

Dear Larry:
I haven’t written to you in a couple of days, so I thought that I had better get busy. We received a letter from you yesterday, and as you know, we were very glad to hear from you. Joanna said that she got a letter and also a picture of you.
Sure glad to hear that you finally got Jenny and Ray’s box. Was everything in good shape when you got it? It wouldn’t be a bad idea if you wrote to them and thank them for it. It sure is nice of them to do it and Uncle Ray talks like they are going to send you another box soon. I called and told them that you got the box and they were glad to hear it.

Dear Larry:
Thought I would drop you a few lines while everything is nice and quiet here. The kids all left for school, Dad is at work, so I am sitting here sipping some tea and trying to think of what to write to you.
Carol said that she was going to go down Barbara’s house after school. I guess Barbara has “Mono,” some kind of a disease that her whole face is swelled up. So she will have to be out of school for some time, Carol said.
It has really been cold the last few days. The frost is still on the grass this morning. The weather man said that it will warm up today and maybe we will have a nice weekend. There are still a lot of leaves on the trees. The city crew has been coming around and taking them off the street and curbs. Dad and Tresa raked some of the leaves last weekend and Dad burned them.

Dear Larry:
I haven’t wrote to you for a couple of days, so I thought I would drop you a few lines to let you know all is well here. Dad wrote you last night, so I suppose by now you have his letter. We didn’t get any mail from you last week. I thought we would get a letter today, but we didn’t. I am thinking that you are probably on your R+R.
Well, we went to Brown County Friday and had a pretty nice time. We stopped at Indianapolis on the way back and got some rye bread. We got 5 loaves and we put some in our freezer.

Dear Larry,
Thought I would write a few lines even though there is not much to write about. Hope you are ok. Here in Anderson it is really cold now. I took the fan out of the living room and put it down in the basement for the winter. Also I took the screens out of the doors and put the windows in and put the screen up in my storm window. I am not taking any chances because the kids may be out soaking windows since they are out of school tomorrow and Friday. Next week is Halloween and the kids only get to go out one night this year and that is Halloween night. In a way I am glad because I won’t have kids knocking on my door every 5 minutes.

8:40 P.M. (My birthday)
Hi Larry:
How are you? I hope you are fine. I’m feeling real good, because it’s my birthday. I just love the skirt you got me. I’m going to wear it tomorrow, with a white long sleeve shell. It’s not a blue skirt, it’s green [plaid]. Well, here it is Saturday and I didn’t finish your letter yet. There really isn’t much going on around here, so there isn’t much to say. I can’t think of anything else, just that I got a blue shell, a jumper, and a dress, and a Kalogn [Kologne] kiddle from Joanna.

Dear Larry:
Here it is Sunday morning and as yet we haven’t been to church. We were supposed to go to the 8 o’clock mass because Karl had to serve, but Dad went to the club last night and forgot to come home, so we will have to go to a later mass. Karl went to the 8 with the D——’s. By the way, Karl capes now. He brings the water, wine, and the chalice to the priest.
Joanna stayed all night with Carol J—-. She is on her vacation this week, so she will probably do a lot of running around.
I don’t know if Carol told you or not, but the high school religion classes are going to be held on Sunday afternoon now instead of 9 in the morning, which makes it nice because now they are going to have mass at 5 in the evening, so she won’t have to get up early on Sunday mornings anymore.
