Dear Larry:

Even though I don’t get any mail from you, here I am again. I can’t understand why it is so hard for you to write us a letter. You know that we want to hear from you and how you are getting along. I don’t mind you calling home in a while, but we still like to get letters, so get on the ball or I am going to quit writing to you.

McHale’s Navy is on T.V. right now. Dad just left to work at the Club. He finally got a new battery today for the Chevy, it cost him $24.83. Joanna will probably drive it to work tomorrow.

Joanna and Dad both had the day off today. Dad took Carol to the dentist this morning, she will probably be wearing braces before long. I didn’t write to you yesterday as I was pretty busy all day. I went to the doctor for my checkups, my appointment was for 11:30 in the morning and he didn’t take me till 2:15, so I had a long wait. It will be a year in March since I had my operation. That time just flew. I only hope now that the next 2 years will go by that fast.

How are you doing on the rifle range? Ok I hope.

Joanna said she was talking to Robert R– and he said he got your letter. Have you gotten any mail from anyone else besides me and dad and Aunt Mary? Larry, do any of the boys’ parents come to visit them on weekends? I was telling Dad that we could probably leave here early some Sunday morning and visit you, that is if you would want us to. Let us know so maybe we can plan on it one of these days.

Here I am again, I had to take time out. It was cold in the house, so I went to turn the thermostat up and by golly it wouldn’t go on. I thought the furnace was on the blink, so I had to call dad at the club, so he came home and what was wrong is that the fuse burned out. He put a new one in and it is ok now. I am going to have to close for now so take care of yourself and write.

Love – your Mom

Hi Larry,

What did you think of my report card? Soon I will be watching the Second Hundred Years. I didn’t have much to say, but I’ll write to you over the weekend.

Your sister,
Ellie [Tresa]

Dear Larry,

Hi. How are you doing? I am only going to write you a few lines to keep you in tune with sports. To begin it I might as well say Madison Heights beat Anderson. Some of the high scorers were Freeman with 22, Dixon with 19, and Burns with 14. Yesterday I watched an [NBA All-Star] basketball game which the East won by about 14 points. Mother is yelling at me to do my homework so I’ll better be going.

So Long.

Your Brother,
Karl

Tresa’s nickname was Ellie May or Ellie May Hair Color. Larry called her that because she had blond hair like Ellie May Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies. Tresa can go into more detail if she wants to.

Both Karl and Tresa sure were straight to the point in their letters! Grandma sure seems pissed that Larry isn’t writing very often. ha!

Didnt life seem laid back years ago? What happened to those days? I remember Tresa being called Ellie May. Good times.

I wonder what operation grandma had that would have been a year in March since she had it.

I love how grandma says she is going to stop writing if he doesn’t write back, but we all know she never would. Based on the giant stack of letters we have, it’s obvious she keeps writing.

What operation is Grandma talking about? And why does she want the next two years to go by fast? Grandma sure is pissed. Where is Larry stationed right now? I guess it is within driving distance from Anderson IN- I just don’t think they should drive the Chevy to go see him Ha!

  • Deb Gruebmeyer

Tresa do you take after your mother. (Ha)? She says that alot doesnt she. Its just her way. Not sure about the operation either. Maybe Carol knows.

  • Tresa

I don’t remember Second Hundred Years at all. Larry did call me Ellie Mays Hair Color till the day he died … no more detail needed than what you explained, Jeff. I remember being told Mommy had a tumor in her stomach that needed removed, but it may have been a hysterectomy, maybe that was just how they explained it to me. And the two years she hoped would go by fast, I assume, was the two years he was enlisted in the Army. At this point he was still in basic training (in Ft. Campbell, KY maybe). We did go visit him once, if my memory serves me correctly.

$24 for a car battery, god I wish those days were back again. I love how Tresa sent him her report card, must have been a pret-T good one.

What was most interesting is that the car battery was $24 but a ‘quick charge’ was $5.50? Highway robbery!! heh heh
