Friday Morning
February 9, 1968
9 A.M.
Dear Larry:
I thought I’d get started on your letter early and write what I can then finish it later because I have quite a bit of work to do around the house. For one thing, mop my dirty kitchen floor. Ha. Right now I am sipping on tea and eating a bite of cereal between lines to you.
The temperature is 30 degrees outside today and it is snowing. one day it looks like spring and the next it’s snowing.
Joanna is getting ready for work. She has to go in at 10 and work till 6:30 so I had to take time out and fix her lunch, potato soup, ham sandwich and a Twinkie.
This is dad’s weekend off so he is sleeping, he wrote a note for me to wake him up at 10 but whether he will or not, I don’t know.
We finally got our encyclopedias yesterday, and it is really a nice set. Now we have to get a nice book case for it, the one we were looking at in J.C. Penny catalog costs $88.00 so we may get it.
Larry did you send your shoes back with your clothes? I can’t remember if your shoes were in that bag or not when I took your clothes out. I was looking in your closet yesterday and there are 2 pairs of shoes in there. One is a black pair and the sole is kinda loose at the toe, and the other is a brown pair which is not in bad shape. The reason I asked is because I thought you got a new pair before you went into the service and the shoes you have here at home don’t look so new.
Aunt Mary and Uncle Tommy were over last night, I read them your letters and they saw your pictures and thought they were very good. The family always asks about you and so do other people. Eleanor D—– and Arlene S—– asked about you yesterday. I gave Arlene one of the home permanents, so she fixed lunch and gave me a couple of dish towels and a dish towel basket, and it gave me a morning off from the same ole’ routines. Ha.
Larry, by now you probably got your months pay. Are they going to send your bond that you are having taken out home?
I don’t know if I told you or not, but that check you got from Guide Lamp, Dad said he was going to put it in the bank for you. He said it might as well be in the bank drawing interest.
I had the letter laying on the sugar bowl and here it is Saturday 1 P.M. now. I had Dad take me to Pay-Less and I got my groceries. So I had better finish the letter since I started it yesterday. I got a nice fever blister on my lip between time, now I know how Joanna felt when she had them.
Well, Larry, I am going to sign off for now as there is not much to write. So, until tomorrow.
Thinking of you.
Love.
Mom.
