Letter #11 – January 29, 1968

Monday
January 29, 1968

Hi Larry,

How’s it going? Not very good, I suppose. Mother said she got to talk to you yesterday. I’m glad she was finally home when you called.

Bet they’ve been keeping you kind of busy lately. How do you like the rifle range? Have you been able to go out drinking yet?

I read the letter you wrote Bob R—–. He said something about him and Carter coming out to see you when they can. He’ll probably write to you pretty soon. By the way, have you heard from Linda yet?

The other day I was talking to Candy G—– and she seemed surprised that you were gone. She wants me to give her your address so she can write. I don’t really mind her so much, it’s just Cindy I can’t stand. I guess she hosed Nicholas and is dating someone else now.

Not too much has been happening around here lately. It’s real warm out now, but raining. I’m off work today and mother wants me to go to K-Mart in a little while.

Larry L—– has to go to court and pay a $30 fine because of the fight he got into with Thornburg. I guess Doug [pled] innocent and didn’t have to pay anything. I went out with [Larry] L—– last night.

Carol J—– and I are going to the show tonight to see Valley of the Dolls. It should be pretty good. She and Randy (her ex-husband) might go back when he gets out in 3 months. He just left this morning to go to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO [a U.S. Army base] to finish his time as drill [sergeant].

By the way, Billie and Ron H—– are getting married Saturday. I can’t see Billie married.

Mike Y—– said something about Steve G—– leaving this week for some kind of Navy Reserve Camp for a few months. Mike and I went out the other night and drank Southern Comfort. It was the first time I ever drank it, but it sure was good.

Paul Revere & the Raiders are going to be at the AHS [Anderson High School] gym Saturday night. Everyone around here is going. I don’t know for sure whether I will or not. They’re also having a big dance at the union hall Sunday night from 8pm-12am. Just think, on a Sunday, yet everyone will probably get drunk. [I] don’t know if I’ll go to that either.

Well, [I] better go for now. Be good and write when you can.

Love, Joanna

Joanna seems like quite the party girl. I’m disappointed that she enjoyed Southern Comfort, however. I can’t stand the stuff!

Little known myth: Paul Revere & The Raiders wrote the song “Indian Reservation” about the Anderson Indians mascot shortly after their show at Anderson High School.

Also, I would lock my doors and call the cops his Paul Revere showed up at my front door.

Oddly enough, they performed it 3 years after they played at AHS. Also, they didn’t actually “write” it.

I’ma have to start using the term “hosed” more often.

That was a good youtube video of the song. I hope Joanna went to the concert. I found it funny that everyone would probably get drunk at the Union Hall dance on a “Sunday” no less! Maybe that’s why Joanna likes to go to the Colts games now and have a few beers. Thank God she stays away from the Southern Comfort! I love my big sis! So racy back then — I love it!
