6 P.M.
Dear Larry:
Not much to write about, but just a few lines to let you know I am thinking of you. We had lasagna for supper. It was good, only I ate too much and I feel stuffed. Dad went to work at the [Polish] club, he said he would write you a few lines tomorrow night. He got home from the club about 8:30 last night, ate a bowl of bean soup and went to bed. He coughed all night. I gave him hell for drinking, but you know Dad, he probably never will. I think he should have a check-up by the doctor, his cough is getting worse instead of better.
Joanna just took Carol to a basketball game at South Side. Then Joanna and Carol J—– are going to the State [Theater] to see Valley of the Dolls.
It sure is another foggy, dreary day today. It rained most of the day. It is supposed to clear up and get colder tomorrow.
Dad was telling me this evening that Steve W—–, (he left the same day you did) enlisted for 3 yrs to take some kind of schooling.
Dad asked me if you said anything about what you were qualified for and what you were going to do. Let him know, you know Dad, he seems to think you don’t write enough about what you are doing and what you will be doing. So write when you can, Dad seems to think you should write instead of calling because when you call we can’t think of things to say like you can in a letter.
Joanna finally broke down and wrote you a letter today. Carol was going to write and then she decided to go to the game.
By the way Larry, you got a check for $12.36 from Guide Lamp today. We can’t figure out what it is for. We think it must be back pay for a raise that they got before you got laid off. Dad will probably write you more about it tomorrow. He said he would cash it for you and I’ll put it in that box you have in your bedroom. Well, I’m going to take a bath and relax. So take care. Dad will probably write tomorrow.
Love Mom

Larry used to take us to see movies all the time at The State Theater. Never saw Valley of the Dolls.
I know Amelia didn’t learn to drive until really late, but did she ever learn how to put a sentence together?
“Dad seems to think you should write instead of calling because when you call we can’t think of things to say like you can in a letter.”
That actually makes a lot of sense. Pretty interesting outlook.
They sure didn’t say much in this one!
I feel like grandma loves to use the word dreary. I have seen it more reading these letters than I ever have before. I think I remember going to that theater with you guys and Uncle Larry once. I don’t remember what we saw, but I think I remember the theater.
I believe the movie that Larry took us to see was “Rudy”.
I don’t remember seeing Rudy there, if that was the case. I don’t remember what movie it was, however.
Maybe Grandma’s days were “dreary” with the thought that her son would soon be in the throes of the Vietnam war.
