Story of the Haunted House
We were looking through some of Larry’s things recently, and we discovered an old English paper that Larry had written when he was 11 (almost 12). Since the story is of haunted nature, and since today is Halloween, we thought it would be a nice treat (trick or?) to post it for you all to see. Enjoy, and Happy Halloween!

Story of the [Haunted] House
One day I was walking home from school, and it was getting dark. I wanted to get home fast, so I took a shortcut through the woods. About in the middle of the woods I saw a weird two story house When I saw the house, I forgot about getting home, so I went in. When I went in something got on my face. I did not know what it was, but I found out it was only a cobweb. When I was upstairs I heard a weird sound, so I started running. When I reached the door, I stopped, and it was only a bat. After that I thought I spent too much time there, so I ran home, and I never went there again.
Larry On Leave, May 1968
On May 16, 1968 the above Military Standby Authorization for Commercial Air Travel form was signed and approved for Larry to come home from Ft. Sill Oklahoma to Anderson, Indiana. Below are the boarding passes from that trip. He traveled from Lawton, OK to Oklahoma City to Chicago to Indianapolis. Click each image to see full detail.
June 1956 – Cub Scouts Enjoy Trip To Kokomo By Train
This newspaper clipping, probably taken from The Herald Bulletin, shows Larry (middle row, third from the left) and his sister Joanna (to the left of Larry) with their other St. Ambrose Cub Scout friends. On Saturday, June 26, 1956, they took a train trip from Anderson to Kokomo, IN where they went on a tour of the Kokomo Police Station and jail. Click the image to enlarge and read the entire article. Larry was 8 years old in the picture.
Passed Out With Sloe Gin
This letter was with all of the other letters. Like the Valentine’s Day Letters, this one is not from Larry’s immediate family. It’s from Linda, probably one of his high school friends, who also sent one of the aforementioned Valentine’s. This letter included the photo pictured above. It was in pretty bad shape as it must have gotten wet and part of the letter stuck to it. We tried our best to clean it up with a little water and Bestine. That seemed to work pretty well, as you can see below. She seems to be passed out with a bottle of DeKuyper Sloe Gin, but she explains what is really going on in the letter below.
Valentine’s Day 1968
In between all the letters from family there were other letters as well. There were two around Valentine’s Day 1968 that were from two of Larry’s friends from high school, we’re assuming. They both included a goofy card and one also included a letter. We thought they were interesting enough to include on the website. (click an image to view more detail)
