Larry’s 3rd Grade Photo – 1955-1956
We’re assuming this is Larry’s third grade photo. The only marking on it is “ST. AMBROSE – 1955-56.” He would have been 8 years old and that’s usually how old a third grader is.
St. Ambrose is a Catholic church and K-12 school in Anderson, IN. All of the Rudolf children attended.
Passed Out With Sloe Gin
This letter was with all of the other letters. Like the Valentine’s Day Letters, this one is not from Larry’s immediate family. It’s from Linda, probably one of his high school friends, who also sent one of the aforementioned Valentine’s. This letter included the photo pictured above. It was in pretty bad shape as it must have gotten wet and part of the letter stuck to it. We tried our best to clean it up with a little water and Bestine. That seemed to work pretty well, as you can see below. She seems to be passed out with a bottle of DeKuyper Sloe Gin, but she explains what is really going on in the letter below.

“Roll and Falstaff — can’t envision Daddy without either. I used to run down to the neighborhood drug store (Mary’s on Forrest Terrace across from Uncle Tommy’s house … he would give me 5 cents extra to get myself some penny candy from the glass candy display) to get him Sir Walter Raleigh tobacco and OCB papers.” -Tresa

Useless Trivia: Amelia still keeps her garbage can in this exact spot to this day. On the shelf in the top left is a can of Chase and Sanborn Coffee.
